DF PvP Video

This sneak peek just fell into my lap. It's a brief video of PvP in the Darkfall alpha client. This is an amateur video, not an official release.

eh looked ok, nice effect on that one mage casting birds or something it looked like. The hands with the staff is way to big would annoy the hell out of me ;/

yeah i agree with nightrain it was ok, i'm not gonna act like the people on the darkfall forum ;p But it was ok, time will tell that close up crap would get annoying to me at least. Hopefully more to come sometime soon.

Well at least it's not 100% vapor! hehe.

Some of that looked pretty cool. But the mace/hand pumping this was annoying as hell. They need to be able to turn that crap off. Deyth send them a msg!!!

The video isn't that old. It's a leak that we decided to own up to and Deyth was given permission to show it. There are probably more of them. I believe this was taken using a digital camera during some playtesting.

Some things that we need to explain about what you're looking at:

--The characters showing in the video are not NPC guards, they're player characters that we use for testing. You can make out some NPCs standing behind the tables in the marketplace in the background.

--The staff isn't a melee weapon and that's why the character wielding it is in first person. It's a dwarven mage staff and that's why it looks so compact and solid like a mace. If the character switched to a melee weapon he would have gone into third person.

--The first person hands and art in general that you see in the video are temps and so is the movement, the distance from the viewer, the animation etc.

--Casting time and the casting bar are disabled in this instance for testing purposes.

--Graphics are improved, and will be further improved from what you see in the leaked video

--The health bar contains an insane amount of hitpoints for the testing of the battle system and that's why you don't see much of a change on it

--Many of the things you see in this video are temporary, other things are not activated, or showing, or optimized.

We would have preferred an official release for the first Darkfall gameplay video but this is out there now, it's Darkfall, so there you go.

My thoughts on the video:

Wow Darkfall might actually happen!

The hands are annoying as hell. If there was no way to turn those off I wouldn't play the game. It sounds from that quote above as if you are locked into a certain viewpoint depending on what weapon you use...that would suck.

I'm surprised they included so much blood. It'll probably get slapped with an MA rating in the States, which would be interesting. I don't think there's a popular MMO that has had such realistic/graphic violence.

After playing L2, I don't think I could play a game that didn't have good mouse control movement. WASD is nice, but I've just grown to love the point and click movement.

The birds were cool.

Don't try judging the game by a leaked alpha client video. There will be plenty of molding in beta.

Whoah. First person ive seen that "loves" the point and click movement. Personally, i couldnt play a game that was point and click.

L2 had the best movement system I've ever played with. I hated it at first too.

WoW has, by far, the smoothest gameplay and movement system. It is so clean and flawless when you dance around in combat as a melee. I honestly hope every game after WoW models their movement system because it is amazing.

In my opinion point and click should be reserved for games with 0 lag, ie. single player games. Diablo 2 was a classic example of how a few misclicks could lead to instant death, true its not a real 3d MMO but still, I hated the L2 and the SB movestyles, WASD can't be beat in my opinion.

It was L2's mix of mouse and keyboard that made it the best.
